Electrical Application Engineer
The Nexteer Automotive Steer-by-Wire engineering team continues to grow and evolve as we are working with multiple customers in support of their development of demonstration vehicles and design requirements. At the same time the team is developing and refining our own production-intent designs for offering on anticipated upcoming gathering requests for new business quotes. Steer-by-wire technology is an exciting development in the automotive industry, considerable interest from many areas. It provides significant benefits for both traditional and autonomously-driven vehicles, being a key enabler for the Nexteer Quiet Wheel technology and seamless transitions between autonomous and human drivers.
Act as primary electrical engineering interface to the customer(s)
Provide hardware support for development applications.
Verify functionality and robustness of electrical design.
Manage circuit test plans and test results documentation.
Manage changes and work with other groups to coordinate implementation activities.
Lead in electrical design reviews.
Create circuit-level DFMEA based on core documents
Participate in DFMEA reviews.
Create and release electronic controller specs and drawings
Perform bench level evaluation on new features and software content
Work with Nexteer prototype operations on delivery of parts for OEM vehicle demo builds
Lead problem solving activities on hardware and software
Responsible for DFMEA’s, customer documentation and system level DVP&R
Major: Electrical Engineering
Knowledge of electronic circuits and components for automotive industry
Experience with Mentor design tools
Experience with creating electronic schematic diagrams
Familiarity with product failure risk management tools (e.g, DFMEA).
Familiarity with Electromagnetic Compatibility issues associated with board layout and circuit design
Experience working with customers and suppliers
Familiarity with microcontroller designs for embedded applications
Familiarity with power electronics design (power supplies, inverters)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
High level of interpersonal skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Experience with 8 bit and 16 bit controllers
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
2 or more years of experience with circuit design and worst-case circuit analysis / simulation
Familiarity with electronic assembly processes
Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay)
Experience with microcontroller processors and common peripherals
Create and maintain schematics based on core designs.
Experience with thermal constraints of circuit design and fundamentals of heat transfer
Proficient in both analytical skills and hands-on work
Speaking & Listening: This position is highly communicative through phone, web ex, skype, and face to face with work team and customers utilizing English as the primary language. Communicating with work team and customers; This job requires the perception of speech.
Carrying:The employee will need to carry a laptop case or backpack with computer while travelling.Occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Walking: Occasionally be required to walking through manufacturing environment and from building to building.Must be able to walk from building to building and stand for periods of time
Stooping and crouching:The employee will occasionally be required to bend forward by bending at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
Sitting:Must be occasionally able to sit for extended periods of time.
Standing: Must be occasionally able to stand for extended periods of time.
Climbing:The employee will occasionally need to climb stair/ladders within the manufacturing/garage/lab environment.
Working inside and around ground vehicles: While inside a vehicle, the employee will be primarily seated. Could be occasionally in other postures (e.g. crouching, kneeling, bending, stretching) while reaching to various parts inside the vehicles for connecting/installing/operating mechanical/electrical/electronic equipment.
