We are seeking a qualified candidate for a Senior Engineer to lead the storage solutions for the Xbox console hardware development team. Storage solutions include HDD, SSD, and Flash based storage technologies. The successful candidate will be the primary technical focal point for existing and leading-edge storage technologies on currently shipping and future Xbox design projects. The focus will be integrating the right storage solutions into the console based on a variety of constraints such as cost, reliability, capacity and performance requirements. Integration includes defining the requirements for each storage technology, creating specifications, working within an internal team and external vendors to identify specific components that meet the requirements and then completing a characterization, qualification and validation of each technology.

The candidate will own the storage solutions from the early architectural stages of a program all the way through sustaining support for units already in customer’s hands.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Storage Architect: Coordinate external design activities with the storage vendor as well as provide technical leadership regarding:

· Understand and document requirements for each storage device

· Create and maintain specifications to be used internally and shared with external vendors.

· Technology and roadmap of each storage device

· Identify internal schedule and milestones and recommend solutions that fit each project

· Technical lead from the console team to ensure the vendor meets the agreed upon milestones with the proper collateral at a high level of quality

· Manage Microsoft technical requirements and improvements with storage vendors

· Manage DFM, DFT, Quality and Reliability requirements

· Develop and maintain a usage model for each device

· Develop characterization tests, validation tests and qualification plans for each device including performance testing, FW tests, environmental test and thermal / mechanical plans

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS/MS in Electrical Engineering

  • A solid understanding of core engineering principles

  • Deep understanding of current HDD, SSD and Flash Technology

  • Knowledge of SATA, PCIe/NVM, and eMMC protocols

  • Strong software development background interfacing with, testing, and debugging hardware components. Operating system and embedded firmware development experience a plus

  • 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and shipping products of medium to high complexity

  • Knowledge of high volume consumer electronics design and manufacturing is desired

  • Strong bench evaluation and in-lab debugging skills are required

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies including DOE, Monte Carlo, Linear Regression, statistical analysis, and process capability

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms

  • Enthusiastic, motivated and self-driven

  • Domestic and international travel will be required
