The Division of Engineering of the City University of New York’s Department of Design, Construction and Management provides engineering and architectural services for all capital projects managed by the University (CUNY), New York Dormitory Authority (DASNY), and New York State Power Authority (NYPA). This includes:
Review of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, structural, environmental, and architectural design documents (drawings, specifications, etc.) prepared by the design consultants for major renovation, infrastructure replacement, retro commissioning, and energy performance projects.
Managing the design and construction of fire alarm, commissioning and retro-commissioning projects.
Quality control and file inspections for all capital projects.
Troubleshooting the heating, cooling, control, plumbing, and electrical systems for the existing installation for all campuses.
Managing the engineering, environmental, and special inspection requirement contracts.
Managing the Local Law 11 and Public Assembly Projects.
Managing all CUNY violations.
Salary commensurate with qualifications.
The responsibilities for the Electrical Engineer for the Engineering Division are:
Provide management and oversight for executing electrical and fire alarm engineering design.
Review consultant design documents for conceptuality, constructability, and accuracy.
Monitor the progress of electrical and fire alarm design projects, review and approve consultant design documents, evaluate the performance of the consultants.
Issue guidelines and procedures for projects in conformance with applicable codes and regulations.
Prepare in-house design documents.
Coordinate with other engineering and architectural disciplines and prepare management reports as required by Director of Engineering.
Prepare electrical and fire alarm design standards and specifications.
Perform cost estimate for projects.
Review shop drawings, submissions, and change orders.
Manage fire alarm and security projects during design phase and construction phase.
Represent the Director of Engineering in conferences and meetings in his absence.
Perform quality assurance site visits during construction phase and prepare report.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in the design of low and high voltage power distribution systems.
The candidate must have good experience in design of controls and fire alarm systems for higher education facilities, commercial, and residential buildings.
Ability to manage fire alarm and security projects.
Ability to perform analysis, design and troubleshooting of electrical and fire alarm systems.
The candidate must have familiarity with design of substation.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to meet deadlines and keep the project cost within the budget.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and fire alarm systems.
Experience with Computer Aided Design and proficiency with Microsoft Office software are required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
The candidate must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
An approved professional license (P.E.) in the State of New York is preferred.
