Electrical Engineer Product Specialist


Provide technical leadership to the engineering organization from the managerial level down to the engineering level. Maintain a thorough understanding of industry best-practices, work to identify strategic competitive gaps and lead cross-functional resolution of competitive gaps and other issues identified in the organization. A Technical Specialist could be required to fill in for a managerial or non-managerial role at a moment’s notice.

Be able to use all aspects of a product development activity, including hardware design, software design, test procedures, and regulatory requirements. In addition to being capable of creation and analysis of multiple design alternatives, assessing such alternatives based on given or self-defined criteria, and selecting the most suitable options to refine to a final design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead system/product requirements specifications, solution definition, technical feasibility analysis, and architecture specification.

  • Acts as a primary technical specialist for all electrical engineering-related technical concerns and offers expertise to the product teams as appropriate

  • Provide technical guidance for product design and integration engineering activities. Ensures conceptual integrity of product design.

  • Provide engineering support for sales presentations, technical solutions discussions, and product demonstrations with prospective customers.

  • Develop and/or approve product Architecture requirements and design specifications, test plans, and test reports.

  • Responsible for architecture level development and testing requirements.

  • Acts as a primary technical specialist for all electrical engineering-related technical concerns and offers expertise to the product teams as appropriate

  • Assist in resolution of complex/difficult product issues as necessary

  • Identify strategic changes required to improve overall tools, processes, efficiency and quality.

  • Participate in EMC design reviews and ensures best practices are followed

  • Drive Risk Management processes into the organization

  • Drive Structured Problem Solving Processes into the organization

  • Works Closely with Core/ Application Managers to develop and suggest reuse strategy and supports the coordination with Magna Electronics manufacturing teams to ensure manufacturability.

  • Review key project deliverables

  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts, researches, recommends and initiates implementation of enhancements to products, processes, and programs.

  • Develops design, analysis, and test guides and training material, schedules classes and carries out training, serves as technical mentor for engineers globally.

  • Work with system engineers at program initiation to analyze the customer requirements and to enter them into the Magna application life cycle tool.

  • Define and Develop interfaces of the architecture, Architecture design, and Verification criteria.

  • Be aware of innovative solutions and propose patent applications.

  • Perform detailed work assignments provided by the mentor or team member, by applying established and well defined product architecture techniques.

  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. Ensures that facilities are in full compliance with all safety regulations.


  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 8 years of experience or 10 years technical engineering experience

Experience/Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Working knowledge relevant standard including IS026262, ISO/TS 16949, ISO/IEC TR 15504, hazard, SAE J2464, IEC, NEC, ISO 20G53

  • Working knowledge of CAN and LIN based tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape, neoVI

  • Knowledge of analysis and engineering tools: Electrical Circuit Simulators (PSpice, Saber), Schematic/PCD Design Tools (Altium)

  • Electrical Test Equipment (Digital Scopes, Logic Analyzers, etc.)

  • Knowledge of analysis and engineering tools such as version control/configuration management, UML tools, static code check tools

  • ALM tools (PTC Integrity)

  • Knowledge on basic control model algorithm design

  • Mathworks based tools (Matlab, Simulink)

  • ADTF environment

  • Carmaker

  • Enterprise Architect

  • Excellent Communication skills both verbal and written; able to present technical topics internally and externally

  • Travel (domestic and international) may be needed

  • Able to work effectively in a global environment

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a mentor to technical employees

  • Comprehensive knowledge in electrical design and development of automotive electronics

  • Electrical circuit test and troubleshooting methods and/or techniques

  • Working knowledge in planned and structured engineering approach and structured problem solving techniques (8D).

  • Revision control and Change control

  • Requirements decomposition planning and reporting (KPI generation)

  • Test plan development

  • Track records of writing requirements that can be successfully implemented.

  • Experienced in use of requirements management tools. Familiar with concepts such as baselining, inheritance etc.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Package (Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote/Word)

  • ASIL Requirements and two-level fault strategies.
