This position is an entry level position for an electrical engineer (EE) for facilities at the Navy Combat System Engineering Development Site (CSEDS). The AMES engineer will work closely with the senior engineer to support electrical power distribution system designs to support the CSEDS facility operations.
The job requires the ability to understand and develop the knowledge and experience necessary to support the application, selection, design, installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of the following equipment: 1. 26,000V substation equipment. 2. 4,160V metal clad and metal enclosed switchgear. 3. 480V load centers, motor control centers, and panelboards. 4. Transformers, dry and oil filled, up to 7,500 kVA. 5. Motors and drives. 6. UPS systems for large data centers. 7. Diesel generator/automatic transfer systems. 8. Static frequency converter systems. 9. 277V interior and exterior lighting. 10. Power monitoring network and control systems.
The position requires understanding of short circuit and load flow analyses, and application of protective devices. A knowledge of electrical safety practices and a working knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 70E (Electrical safety in the Workplace) is required.
The engineer will be part of the team that is responsible for the preparation of construction drawings, estimates, statements of work, and specifications. The engineer will be directly involved in the project construction phase and will provide direction to journeymen electricians and electrical contractors.
The engineer will provide support for facilities power distribution projects and will support installation of new Aegis and BMD computer labs. Additionally, projects include site improvements and modifications to the existing power system infrastructure. Preventative maintenance, inspection, and testing of the power distribution system is performed during the semiannual site shutdown. The engineer will be responsible for coordination and leadership of the semi-annual shutdown.
Basic Qualifications Experience with power distribution system design and associated engineering calculations. Knowledge of high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage systems, including testing and trouble-shooting.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and AutoCAD.
Excellent communications skills. Ability to interface well with the project team including representatives from Lockheed Martin, Aegis Tech Rep, the US Navy, Architectural and Engineering firms, and contractors. Ability to supervise journeymen electricians and provide guidance on technical matters.
Desired skills Ability to learn and become proficient with 1. Building automation systems. 2. Fire alarm and fire protection systems, including FE-25 clean agent fire suppression system.
