Job Description

Designs, develops and tests all aspects of electrical components, equipment, products, machinery and/or systems. Applies principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Confer with engineering team, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
  2. Coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and requirements
  3. Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical components, equipment, products, machinery and/or systems
  4. Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
  5. Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
  6. Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
  7. Develop and maintain Engineering (design and testing) documentation per ISO standards that support the business unit quality system
  8. Design, develop and incorporate new technology into communications components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial and residential purposes as they relate to business unit business
  9. Select and/or design and help to assemble test control apparatus and equipment, and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for electrical/electronic testing of designs and products to verify and validate that they meet product definitions. Maintain and upgrade the Development Engineering test laboratory as required to support new product designs and test procedures
  10. Work with Applications Engineering to develop applications of new communications cabling system devices and products for commercial, residential, and industrial uses
  11. Represent the business unit at EIA/TIA and other standards organizations meetings to develop currency in latest standards and test procedures which may affect our business

Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of Electrical/Electronics concepts, analog & digital design, familiarity with the properties of discreet semiconductors, RF theory
  • Ability to use personal computers for word processing, test result analysis and information retrieval, and network installation and maintenance
  • Preferred abilities include: Circuit simulation, RF Design, connector design, analog & digital design, microcontrollers, firmware programming in C++, visual basic, production test fixture design and support, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, O-scopes, schematic capture, embedded design

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (BSEE) from four-year college
  • Minimum 1 year experience
  • Experience in an EE internship opportunity a plus
