Kimley-Horn Electrical Engineer in Lisle, Illinois

We are currently seeking a Professional Electrical Engineer (P.E.) in our Lisle/Chicago offices with experience in the planning, design and construction of electrical power distribution and control systems for many different types of clients, including aviation, commercial, manufacturing, industrial, higher education and others. This position will require a high level of client management, project management and technical abilities. This position may require travel to client sites and other Kimley-Horn offices.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus)

  • 10 or more years of related experience

  • Professional Engineering License – Electrical Engineering (Illinois required, other states are a plus)

  • Ability to write responses to Requests for Proposals and Requests for Qualifications for various clients and marketing opportunities

  • Knowledge of National and Chicago Electrical Codes with the ability to learn codes for other Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)

  • Experience in utility coordination, stand-by generators, uninterruptable power supplies (UPS), variable frequency drives (VFD), HVAC power/control systems, power distribution system equipment (MCCs, transfer switches, switchboards, switchgears, panelboards, transformers, etc.), indoor/outdoor lighting and other electrical systems

  • Ability to review electrical equipment vendor catalogs, shop drawings, plans, as-builts and other technical data

  • Ability to work individually or in a multi-discipline team

  • Mentor and coordinate the work of designers and other technical staff on various electrical or multi-discipline projects

  • Manage and deliver tasks under minimal supervision and guidance

  • Ideal candidates will have strong project management, written and communication skills, as well as the ability and passion to provide superior client service for a variety of clients


  • Experienced in performing Arc Flash evaluations and studies is a plus

  • AutoCAD and Microstation experience are a plus but not required
