Job Title: Senior R&D Electrical Engineer
Job Location: 3000 N. Sam Houston Parkway East, Houston, Texas 77032
Duties: Working as technical lead on embedded programming projects; developing embedded codes for downhole formation sampling, directional, density, porosity and rotary steerable tools; identifying architectural details of ARM7, C2000 and MSP430 microprocessors and successfully designing with them; identifying effects of high temperature (in excess of 150 degrees Centegrade) on circuitry and writing embedded code to test for failure at high temperature and to determine failure tolerance, and to be robust against high temperature malfunctions; designing with fundamental embedded programming concepts to solve complex problems; designing architecture of embedded systems, including Real Time Operating System (RTOS) based designs and creates corresponding design documentation; working with engineers from other disciplines to ensure hardware and embedded programs meet requirements; designing embedded systems, and determining tradeoffs, such as power, timing, Random Access Memory (RAM), non-volatile memory, and computation frequency; selecting microcontrollers with appropriate peripherals and writing code taking advantage of them; these peripherals should include Analog to Digital Conversion (ADC), Digital to Analog Conversion (DAC), communications, Direct Memory Access (DMA) and timers; selecting appropriate debugging tools; troubleshooting and documenting complex issues using debugging tools; formulating and documenting solutions to complex issues; developing custom PC software to interface to and test downhole firmware; coordinating with software developers to design interfaces between firmware and software over communications interfaces, and participating in debugging efforts; utilizing standard digital communication protocols, such as Ethernet, Controller Area Network (CAN) and Low Voltages Differential Signaling (LVDS) across differential signal paths to troubleshoot and identify effects of signal integrity issues caused by grounding, coupling, termination, and jitter; ensuring digital systems component functionality, through maintenance of features and limitations.
Requirements: Master's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering and 2 years' experience in the job offered or 2 years' related experience in developing complex code, multi-threaded code for multiple embedded microprocessors at high temperatures and performing sampling and processing of sensor data.
Must have 2 years of experience with each of the following:
Developing embedded code using interrupts and multiple threads interacting with a low latency RTOS for time critical applications;
Developing high level communications libraries which are portable across multiple processors and enable communications with other processors and software; and
Identifying effects of high temperature (in excess of 150 degrees Centegrade) on circuitry and writing embedded code to test for failure at high temperature, determine failure tolerance, and to be robust against high temperature malfunctions.
