Position Summary

COMPANY has an immediate need for an Electrical Engineer with a background in low voltage motor drive (VFD) technologies and similar electrical power equipment. Projects will include proposal development, new product design, testing, and system integration programs for commercial, industrial, and marine applications utilizing permanent magnet motors, generators, and associated power conversion equipment.

This is a broad technical role which will require the understanding of various aspects of motor drives; including conventional motor drive hardware topologies, motor control methodologies for different motor types (synchronous PMM, Induction Machine), EMC filtering, and typical power electronics cooling methodologies. The candidate should also be familiar and comfortable with testing of motor drives and similar electrical equipment, including the development of test plans/procedures, selection of data acquisition equipment and instrumentation, and operation of typical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, current sensors, and voltage probes. The candidate will need to design and/or specify the equipment needed to accomplish the test plans.

The ideal candidate is an individual with direct experience with high power (+1MW) low voltage motor drive development for commercial and marine markets. Additionally, specific experience in designing for and obtaining certification for motor drives in marine use (ABS, BV, DNV) and familiarity with typical agency requirements (IEC, CE) is a distinct advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development of new motor drives and other electric power equipment for the commercial and marine markets.

  • Independently contribute directly to project success through individual technical contributions.

  • Interface with other departments as well as suppliers to develop the best overall designs.

  • Review of applicable requirements documents and define resulting test plans and procedures.

  • Design test environment including design or selection of test components. Equipment can include but will not be limited to motor dynamometers, inverters, motor controllers, standard temperature, speed, torque, flow and pressure sensors and related data conditioning and acquisition equipment.

  • Supervise or conduct the development of test control user interfaces and data management.

  • Supervise or conduct testing of motors, generators and power electronic systems.

  • Research and recommend infrastructure improvements to increase product development and testing efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:
